American Indian/Alaska Native member information

Starting in late 2026, the federal government will require changes to Oregon Health Plan (OHP) under a bill called H.R. 1. For current OHP members who are American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN), here is what to expect.

Community engagement/work requirements

AI/AN beneficiaries who are eligible (qualify) for services through the Indian health system do not have (are exempt from) Medicaid community engagement/work requirements.

Medicaid redetermination period

AI/AN beneficiaries will keep their Medicaid coverage for 12 months before it is checked again (redetermination).

SNAP work requirements for able-bodied adults

AI/AN beneficiaries do not have (are exempt from) work requirements as part of SNAP eligibility.

Cost-sharing requirements

For beneficiaries (people who get) Indian Health Service (IHS), H.R. 1 protects cost-sharing exemptions that are already in place.

Tribal Wellness Centers, Indian Health Service (IHS) and Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest (NARA NW)

American Indians and Alaska Natives have a right to choose where they get care. They can use primary care providers and other providers that are not part of our CCO, such as Tribal Wellness Centers, Indian Health Service (IHS) clinics and Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest (NARA NW).
